Comparing the Effectiveness of Group Training based on Schema Therapy and Imago Therapy on Improving Couples' Attachment Styles

Abstract :
The present study was applied in terms of purpose and quasi-experimental in terms of method with a pre-test-post-test design with two experimental groups and a control group, which aimed to compare the effectiveness of group training based on schema therapy and imago therapy on improving attachment styles of couples. The statistical population included couples who had referred to the Razi Counseling Center in Karaj for treatment in the winter of 2018. The sampling was done via convenience and purposive types, in which 45 women and men who met the requirements for entering the sessions were selected and randomly assigned to experimental group 1 and experimental group 2 (each containing 15). The other 15 people were assigned to the control group. Both experimental groups received 10 sessions of group training based on schema therapy and imago therapy, and the control group did not receive any training. The Hazen and Shaver’s Attachment Styles Questionnaire (1978) was used to collect data. Data analysis was performed in two parts: descriptive and inferential analysis, using SPSS software. The results showed that there was a difference between the effectiveness of group training based on schema therapy and imago therapy on couples' attachment styles, so schema therapy had a greater effect on attachment styles
