Abstract :
Given the widespread use of polyethylene tanks for storing liquids, their proper design is of great importance. The purpose of this research is to find the best model for the side plates in above-ground and buried polyethylene tanks using software modeling and stress and strain analysis. This tank is produced using polyethylene and is the result of twisting a geometric profile around the tank axis. For this purpose, the effect of the shape of the end plates of above-ground and buried polyethylene tanks on the amount of stress and deformation of the tank and the suitability of each has been investigated in the ANSYS software. The types of plates considered for this research are flat and curved, and the application of the soil effect has been considered in three dimensions and with soil meshing. The properties of the materials used in this paper have been extracted from laboratory results. Among the results obtained, which indicate that the use of a curved platform is more appropriate, is the reduction in the maximum deformation rate from 681 mm in a flat platform to 57.6 mm in a curved platform, on the ground and at the same thickness, which is a significant reduction compared to the value with a flat platform.
