Abstract :
Abstract
The book "The Foot That Stayed Behind," which falls under the genre of Sacred Defense literature, is written by Seyyed Nasir Hosseini Pour. In this work, Hosseini Pour presents his captivity memories in the form of diary entries. This paper aims to analyze the mentioned book according to Gérard Genette's theory, focusing on the characteristics of (time, mood, and tone). The research findings indicate that, since the entire work is written in the present tense while recounting past events, the author relies on a retrospective view regarding time. In the story analysis, the narrator is in the first person and is one of the main characters of the narrative (the hero), who is either present in most events or observes them.
Repetition is not a focus for the author in this work; instead, he utilizes instances of recounting to reduce the volume of content and employs repeated recounting for purposes such as emphasis, necessity, and significance of the matter. The focalizer (Seyyed Nasir) observes the narrative space from a limited viewpoint, as his circle of information is confined to the presence of individuals within the story's setting.
