Investigating the relationship of family cohesion, emotional autonomy and adjustment with academic self- handicapping in male and female students of third grade guidance school in Ahvaz, Iran

Abstract :
The aim of the Present study was to investigate the relationship of family cohesion, emotional autonomy and adjustment with academic self- handicapping in girl and boy students of third grade guidance school in Ahvaz city. The sample consisted of 330 subjects (173 girls and 157 boys) who were selected through multi-stage clustering sampling method. The instruments used for this study were Academic Self- Handicapping Scale; Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS); Emotional Autonomy Scale and Family Cohesion Scale. In order to analyze data Pearson correlation coefficient and multi-variable regression analysis was used. The results in level (p<0/001) showed that there is a significant negative correlation between family cohesion (and its sub scale) with academic self- handicapping. There is a significant positive correlation between emotional Autonomy (and its sub scale) with academic self- handicapping. Also there is a significant positive correlation between adjustment (and its sub scale) with academic self- handicapping .In addition, the results of regression analysis also indicated that multiple relationship among family cohesion, emotional autonomy and adjustment with academic self- handicapping in students was statistically significant.
