Investigating the effect of sexual abuse on self-esteem with the mediating role of maladaptive schemas in women

Abstract :

Many psychological and personal problems, such as sexual problems, are very common among people who were sexually abused as children.The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between childhood sexual abuse and sexual self-esteem of prostituted women with the mediating role of early maladaptive schemas. The statistical population included women under the care of Toos Women's Care Center affiliated with Mashhad Welfare Organization. With the coordination of the center, 100 women were selected as a sample. The data collection tool included three questionnaires: Sexual Abuse Questionnaire (CSA), Sexual Self-Esteem Questionnaire (SSEI-W-SS), and Early Maladaptive Schema Index Short Form (SQ-SF). Data analysis was performed using SPSS and Smart PLS software. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between childhood sexual abuse and sexual self-esteem, sexual abuse and maladaptive schemas, and maladaptive schemas and sexual self-esteem. The mediating role of maladaptive schemas in the relationship between childhood sexual abuse and sexual self-esteem was also confirmed.
