Abstract :
The removal of H2S from natural or industrial gases is important, because this gas is extremely fatal to human and other living creatures. Besides its unpleasant smell, H2S is very corrosive for industrial facilities and equipments. Physicochemical methods for its oxidation and removal are expensive, However, biotechnological methods, using microbial activity for H2S removal have more efficient and economical. The BTF consisted of cylindrical packed bed reactor made of glass, and 120cm in height filled with crushed Lava Rock. The H2S removal studied using T.thioparus DSM 5368in various empty bed resistance times (EBRT) 10-60 sec, pollutant concentrations (20_85ppm), air flow rates(10-60lit/min). In the range of 10-80ppm H2S concentration and EBRT 20-60 sec, the removal efficiency was 100%, But by decreasing the EBRT to 15 second, efficiency reached to 90%. in concentration of 25ppm and EBRT 10 sec, efficiency was 90% and in 75ppm H2S, efficiency decreased to 65%. A maximum elimination capacity of 28 gH2Sm-3h-1 was observed with more than 95% removal efficiency.
