Abstract :
In this study, we sampled and isolated some aerobic cellulolytic bacteria from digestive tract of lumbricusterrestris in order to evaluate their endoglucanase activity and other interested characteristics. The dominant numerical isolate determined as Cellulomonas ew1 (ew1 stands for it's earth worm origin) showed endoglucanase activity as same as other isolates defined as Bacillus spp. These isolates maybe transient micro flora. The most maximum activity of Celllulomonas ew1 and Bacillus ew2 and Bacillus ew3 assayed on sixth day, 2.1 U/ml, 0.9U/ml and 2.9U/ml, respectively. Coculturing of Cellulomonas ew1 with Bacillus ew2 and Bacillus ew3 didn't show any interference, moreover total activity was almost the sum of them alone. The most interesting result was the similar number of Cellulomonas isolated from earth worm(Cellulomonas ew1) and silkworm(Cellulomonas sw97) reported before by us. Although they have different ecological niche and diet and the works were done in two different period times, the both counted numbers were n*104. Thus Celllulomona is a common symbiant bacterium of cellulolytic related worms such as silk worm and earth worm and maybe a source for their cellulases.
