Abstract :
Sarmashhad village is located in Dadin district, Jereh-Baladeh section of Kazeroon city in Fars province and 30 kilometers west of Baladeh city. The ancient site of Sarmeshhad is located about 7 kilometers from this village in the middle of a wide plain between two mountain ranges. The bas-relief of Bahram II and the famous Kartir inscription in the vicinity of this large area show the importance of this area during the Sassanid period. The historical area of Sarmashhad, with an area of approximately 600 hectares, is one of the largest areas where the works of the Sassanid period can be seen. The results of a systematic archaeological survey in this area show its background as the Sassanid period until the end of the 6th century AH. Islamic geographers from the 3rd century to the 9th century AH have named this area as Dasht-e Barin and Ghandejan. By studying the works of Islamic geographers and historians and the results of archeological researches, this article investigates the works left in the historical area of Sarmashhad. And at the end, it examines and analyzes the effective factors in the formation of this area and its connection with the names of Dasht-e Barin and Ghandejan in Islamic sources.
