Evaluation of the Cultural Responsiveness of Elementary School Principals in the Charusa District of Kohgiluye

Abstract :
Background: Cultural responsiveness, as one of the key responsibilities of school principals, plays a pivotal role in fostering cohesion and coordination among various components of the school. This cultural responsiveness not only serves as a tool for effective communication with students, teachers, and parents, but also as a strategic approach for enhancing the quality of education and upbringing. Objective: The aim of this research is to evaluate the extent of cultural responsiveness among primary school principals in the Charusa region. Methodology: This study is applied in terms of its aim and quantitative-descriptive in terms of data collection. The statistical population includes all primary school principals and deputies in the Charusa region, totaling 75 individuals (72 males and 3 females). Due to the limited size of the population, the sample was selected using a census method. Data were gathered through a researcher-designed questionnaire. The validity of the instrument was confirmed through face validity and construct validity (factor loadings), and its reliability was verified using Cronbach's alpha coefficient and composite reliability. Findings: The findings indicate that in cultural responsiveness, T coefficients were satisfactory across all dimensions: student-parent engagement (t = 5.63), inclusive cultural school environment (t = 5.50), culturally responsive teachers (t = 5.61), and critical thinking in leadership behaviors (t = 5.71). Based on an independent samples T-test, cultural responsiveness of principals, considering gender, was significant for indices such as critical thinking in leadership behaviors (F = 31.83), fostering culturally responsive teachers (F = 28.74), and student-parent engagement (F = 10.44). However, no significant difference was observed in the index of an inclusive cultural school environment (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Cultural responsiveness among principals, characterized by active student-parent engagement, enhancement of critical thinking in leadership behaviors, and fostering inclusive cultural environments, contributes to improved educational quality. This approach serves as a critical strategy in transformative management, promoting social justice and inclusivity in the educational system, and providing an effective framework for addressing multicultural needs in school
