Saadi's Literature from the Perspective of Social Empowerment

Abstract :

Social empowerment, as one of the requirements of sustainable development, stands on the shoulders of socio-cultural values. Literature, as a contextual phenomenon and one of the pillars of the cultural system of society, is a reflection of cultural conditions that encourage or hinder the empowerment of society and governance. The study of classical literature can, firstly, reflect a picture of the historical process of the evolution of cultural values, help to understand more deeply the prevailing value frameworks related to the concept of empowerment in the contemporary era, and secondly, highlight the existing cultural capacities for moving on the path of sustainable development. From this perspective, Saʼadi's literature, as a prominent poet and orator and, as evidenced by his works, a social reformer and teacher of ethics, is important, which was studied using the analytical-descriptive method and library resources to examine the relationship of his literature with the central concepts of empowerment. If the goal of empowerment is to improve the quality of life of people, it seems that although macro-level empowering values such as establishing justice are still relevant for rulers, at the individual level, with the development of consumerist culture, we are witnessing the fading of a concept such as contentment, which as a local and regional cultural element has increased the quality of life and has also been considered in post-development theories.
