Abstract :
Participation is considered one of the main and effective concepts in sustainable development. In the present study, the criteria and their effectiveness in increasing public participation, i.e. the socio-economic base of households living in new cities, have been studied. The results obtained showed that the participation of citizens and residents has a direct relationship with urban development. In other words, the greater the level of citizen participation, the easier and more achievable the realization of urban development will be. The aim of this study is to determine and examine the effect of the participation measures of residents of the new city of Sahand in urban affairs. This study is applied in terms of its purpose and in terms of data collection, descriptive-survey research and structural equation modeling have been used for data analysis. After reviewing the research literature, a questionnaire with 8 variables (social awareness, social interaction, social trust, social solidarity, practical participation, attitude towards participation, satisfaction, attachment to place) and 68 questions was prepared. The statistical population of the residents of the new city of Sahand is 75,000 people, with a sample size of 485 obtained using the Cochran formula. SPSS21 and smart-PLS3 software were used to analyze the data. The results indicate that the variables of social interaction, social solidarity, social trust, and social awareness from the field of social capital have a significant effect on the attitude towards participation. The satisfaction variable has an effect on attachment to place, and attachment to place has a positive effect on the attitude towards participation and practical participation. In general, the discussion of citizen participation in urban affairs in the new city of Sahand is simultaneously affected by social, spatial, and individual characteristics
