Abstract :
Focusing on the relationship between religion and art is an independent yet broad field of study that formulates the nature of this relationship from different angles with the aim of understanding both more accurately. The present study focuses on the relationship between religion and art in Vajrayana Buddhism. In this tradition, religion explicitly calls upon visual elements, and art derives its identity from what is considered the ultimate goal of religion. What religious perspective has given rise to this world of imagery and symbols in Vajrayana art, and what factors have contributed to the formation of this religious art?
It seems that the presence of religious figures and religious themes does not always determine the religiousness of an art, and on the other hand, the presence of art in a religious place is not considered a religious value perception of art. By analyzing the foundational concepts, formative principles, and ultimate goal of each of the two fields of religion and art in Tibet, this research has achieved the important point that symbolism, Imagination (Vikalpa), Non-self (Buddhahood), emptiness (śūnyatā), and Consciousness (Vijnana) are the core concepts that are jointly considered the main structure of Vajrayana Buddhism and art in Tibet. .
