Abstract :
Purpose: Marital infidelity is one of the most important reasons for divorce and family breakup. Investigating sexual diversity is one of the new horizons for investigating marital infidelity. Prediction of personality components based on personality organization with the mediation of impulsivity is one of the new approaches. The purpose of the present study was to predict sexual diversity based on personality organization with the mediating role of impulsivity among student couples of Islamic Azad Universities in Tehran province.
Methodology: The research method was descriptive-correlation based on structural equations. All student couples of Islamic Azad Universities of Tehran province in the academic year of 2023-24 were the statistical population. The sample size was determined using G*power software of 287 people. But finally 300 people completed the questionnaires. These people were selected by non-random and purposeful sampling. Information was collected through questionnaires of Kernberg's personality organization (2002), attitude towards infidelity (extramarital relations) by Whatley (2008) and impulsivity by Barrett et al. (1995).
Findings: Based on the analysis, the organization of personality with the mediator role of impulsivity predicted the sexual diversity of couples. This finding shows that the indicators of personality organization and impulsivity were able to significantly predict sexual diversity (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that personality organization, with the role of impulsivity as a mediator, has an effect on couples' sexual diversity. Therefore, it can be concluded that personality organization acts as an important factor in predicting couples' sexual diversity and impulsivity plays a mediating role in this relationship.
