Scientometric analysis of "women and social media" studies in the Web of Science database

Introduction: Women's studies and media is one of the areas of interest in all sciences, especially in social communication studies, which can be studied from different perspectives The purpose of the research was to conduct a scientometric analysis of scientific studies in the field of women and social media in the Web of Science citation database and to create a subject map for the period 2008-2024 in this database. Methods: The present research is a descriptive-analytical study of the applied type, conducted with a scientometric approach. The studied time period includes texts published in the Web of Science citation database from 2008 to 2024. Excel, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix software were used to analyze the data and create scientific maps.. Findings: The research findings revealed that the annual growth rate of scientific production in the field of women and social media within the Web of Science citation database indicates significant changes and remarkable, sustained growth in this domain, especially in recent years. The United States not only produces the highest number of publications but also surpasses other countries in all indicators, including "normalized citation potential," "average citation potential," and "total citations," for articles in the field of women and social media within Web of Science. Furthermore, articles addressing current and critical topics, such as COVID-19, have been cited significantly more than other papers. Conclusion: The keyword network analysis indicates that "women" and "social media" are two central concepts in studies related to the thematic area of women and social media. Other frequently occurring terms in documents within this research domain include "gender," "media," "communication," "internet," "Twitter," "Instagram," "Facebook," "health and prenatal care," and "COVID-19." |
