Abstract :

The studies in the social and cultural domain reveal that Ferdowsi's Shahnameh and the Iranian Garden, as key symbols of Iranian culture and civilization, share values, beliefs, and semantic structures shaped over centuries. This research employs Greimas' theoretical framework and social and cultural methods to explore the semantic structure of these two elements. Greimas' semi-structuralist model emphasizes narrative analysis and the recognition of semantic systems, facilitating a comparative examination of the narrative structure of the Shahnameh and the architecture of the Iranian Garden. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to investigate this inquiry, utilizing concepts such as deep and surface structures, actants, and actions to analyze shared principles, including binary oppositions, heroic patterns, and natural symbolisms in these phenomena. The findings indicate that both the Iranian Garden and Ferdowsi's Shahnameh represent spaces of Iranian identity and culture, possessing shared semantic narratives. Through their complex interconnection of nature, mythology, and history, they contribute to the reproduction and transmission of Iran's cultural and social values. Additionally, this study emphasizes that social analyses and cultural interpretations based on Greimasian theory can serve as effective tools for a deeper understanding of fundamental concepts in Iranian classical literary and artistic texts. This is significant for preserving and enhancing Iran's cultural and identity heritage, enriching interdisciplinary research in this field.
