Abstract :

Reading literary texts with the approach of moral criticism is one of the ways to better understand the text and the characters of the story for the audience and to enhance his knowledge. The Duty-oriented Moral theory proposed by the famous German philosopher Immanuel Kant created a tremendous revolution in the field of ethics. For the first time, Kant spoke about the intention and goal of a person in defining a good work without the result of the action being influential in determining its value. The development of the theory in society has always been associated with various challenges, especially if we want to analyze such a complex moral issue in a fictional work. The novel "Shabcheragh" by Jamal Mirsadeghi paints an accurate picture of the disillusionment of a generation after the August 28 coup in Iran. The main character of this story (Ali) is an idealistic and ethical human being who can be a very good example for such research. The upcoming article is analytical-descriptive. Ali, has been examined in terms of Kantian ethics, and the results indicate that although Ali, in this story, is a man who believes in good behavior and virtue in some moral situations, according to Kant's teachings, the moral action is in conflict with his duty to protect the family. According to Kant, the distinction between the consequences of an action and the intention behind it is an important theme that challenges the main character of this story.
