A preliminary study on the psychometric properties of the Moral Foundations Questionnaire (MFQ30)

Abstract :
Abstract: Moral psychology has experienced a “renaissance” in recent years. Research on the emotional, cognitive, and social determinants of moral judgment has surged in recent years. The development of moral foundations theory (MFT) has played an important role, demonstrating the breadth of morality. Moral psychology has responded by investigating how different domains of moral judgment are shaped by a variety of psychological factors.The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Persian form of Moral Foundations Questionnaire (MFQ30). For this end, 250 teachers (125 male, 125 female) were selected randomly among the teachers of the Moghan city, and responded to Moral Foundations Questionnaire and Schwartz Value Survey (SVS). Psychometric Properties of the moral foundations questionnaire were evaluated. Results Cronbach's alpha for Moral in general was about 79% and for the subscales care / harm, fairness, loyalty to the group, respect for authority and purity were respectively, 58%, 79%, 61%, 70% and 73% . Results of confirmatory factor analysis also showed that this questionnaire has a good fit. The convergent validity of the question- naire, along with the simultaneous implementation Schwartz Value Survey (SVS) evaluated and convergent validity of the Moral Foundations Questionnaire was confirmed. Overall Persian form of the Moral Foundations Questionnaire has a good reliability and validityand it can be used in different investigations in Iran.
