Abstract :
This study was done with the aim of identifying friendship among basketball players and evaluating the effect of friendship in their team atmosphere and players' function. The study was a qualitative research based on Grounded-theory with Exploratory Factor Analysis method. The qualitative research population included sports management professors, athletes, sport trainers, judges and managers selected purposefully via Snowballing method for qualitative interviews. The second study population included all 168 players of basketball Premier League among whom questionnaires were distributed via all-inclusive sampling method; finally, a total of 130 people participated in the present study. For the quantitative part, a questionnaire was designed based on the qualitative section. For qualitative analysis, Grounded-Theory and for the quantitative analysis, Structural Equation Modeling using AMOS was used. Findings were indicative of developed team culture and norms. Then, it got clear that culture, team norms and sociability in the relationship among quality of friendship and individual-social function and team-club function plays a mediating role. Analysis of qualitative interviews led to identification of causal factors, phenomenal-based factors, background factors, intervening factors, approaches and methods and based on quantitative analysis using Structural Equation Modeling, friendship formation factors and development of friendship value include social skills, social and emotional empathy and personal and attitude features.
