Abstract :
Abstract The novel : " One hundred years of loneliness " from Gabriel Garcia Marquez is one of the most exquisite novels which has been written with a theme of contrast between tradition and modernity in a magical realistic method . The challenge between tradition and modernity as the two great social advancements in the world of literature has especially been reflected in the mold of novel that " One Hundred Years of Loneliness " is a sample of this literary work. In this passage, by studying the positive and negative consequences of modernity in Marquez's society, we have dealt with its contrast with tradition in four spheres of culture, society, economy and politics relying on Antony Gidden's sociology. Marquez, as a professional journalist, and a competent novelist in Latin America, has been able, by creating excellent illustration and by using the modern method of magic realism, to show the problem of his country and the neighboring ones on the view of the whole world. Marquez thinks the third world countries not only haven't reached the boundries of exaltation, but also have been changed to the world of rivalry among capitalist and colonialist countries in being plundered of their reservoirs and intellectual reserves. Opposite to Gidden's theory, Marquez has illustrated a traditional society which by daily expression of modernity is on the way of vanishing and nihilism.
