A Meta-analysis of the relationship between cultural capital and leisure time: based on a systematic review

Abstract :

So far, much research has been conducted on the relationship between cultural capital and leisure time, especially in the theoretical framework of Bourdieu. For this purpose, all the researches that were published in the 90s in reliable quarterly journals were extracted and analyzed in 5 levels with a systematic review method and finally, on the basis of the specified criteria, 11 works were selected and used in the meta-analysis process. In the initial stage, the assumptions of homogeneity and publication bias were checked, and after the tests, the heterogeneity and lack of publication bias were confirmed, and then the data were evaluated by CMA software. The findings of the current research showed that the effect size of cultural capital and leisure time is 0.470, which on the basis of Cohen's effect size interpretation system, is in the medium range. Also, audience and education variables were considered as moderating variables and it was determined that the coefficient of effect size among residents (0.497) was more than that of youth (0.413) and among non-students (0.535) was more than that of students (0.270). In fact, the findings showed that the relationship of the two variables with the adjustment of citizens and non- students can have different effects on each other.
