The purpose of the present paper is to investigate the effect of the second invariant of the deformation tensor on the axial and azimuthal shear deformation of an incompressible hyperelastic solid with various strain energy functions. To this end, the axial shear deformation of an incompressible cylinder with the modified Gent-Thomas, Gent-Thomas, Gent-Gent, and Carroll strain energies subjected to an axial shear traction is considered, where the displacement field is determined analytically for the first three models and numerically for the fourth model. The phenomenon of strain hardening at large elastic deformations, predicted either by the limiting chain extensibility condition for the modified Gent-Thomas and Gent-Gent models or phenomenologically by the Carroll model, is observed and it is shown that the second invariant of deformation increases the strain hardening experienced by such materials. Next, the azimuthal shear deformation of an incompressible annular wedge with the modified Gent-Thomas, Gent-Thomas, Gent-Gent, and Carroll models is considered, where the annular wedge is subjected to a controllable azimuthal shear deformation and the angular displacement is determined analytically for all the above models. Again, the second invariant of the deformation tensor is shown to have a significant effect on the azimuthal shear deformation as reflected in the increase of the strain hardening of the material in such deformation. In addition, the annular wedge with the modified Gent-Thomas and Carroll models is shown to have a higher resistance in azimuthal shear deformation than the other models mentioned above. تفاصيل المقالة

In this paper the reflection and transmission at a plane interface between two different couple stress generalized thermoelastic solid half spaces in context of Loard-Shulman(LS)[1967] and Green-Lindsay(GL)[1972] theories in welded contact has been investigated. Amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are obtained due to incidence of a set of coupled longitudinal waves and coupled transverse waves. It is found that the amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are functions of angle of incidence, frequency and are affected by the couple stress properties of the media. Some special cases are deduced from the present formulation. تفاصيل المقالة

The present investigation is concerned with the reflection and transmission coefficients of plane waves at the interface of generalized thermoelastic solid half space and heat conducting micropolar fluid half- space. The amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves with various angle of incidence have been computed numerically and depicted graphically. Micropolarity and thermal relaxation effects are shown on the amplitude ratios for specific model. Some special and particular cases are also deduced from the present investigation. تفاصيل المقالة

In the present paper, the problem of reflection and transmission of waves at an interface of elastic and microstretch thermoelastic solids with microtemperatureshas been studied. The amplitude ratios of various reflected and transmitted waves are functions of angle of incidence and frequency of incident wave. The expressions of amplitude ratios have been computed numerically for a particular model. The variations of amplitude ratios with angle of incidence are shown graphically to depict the effect of microrotation. Some particular cases of interest have been also deduced. تفاصيل المقالة

In this paper, the reflection and refraction of longitudinal wave from a plane surface separating a micropolar viscoelastic solid half space and a fluid saturated incompressible half space is studied. A longitudinal wave (P-wave) impinges obliquely at the interface. Amplitude ratios for various reflected and transmitted waves have been obtained. Then these amplitude ratios have been computed numerically for a specific model and results thus obtained are shown graphically with angle of incidence of incident wave. It is found that these amplitude ratios depend on angle of incidence of the incident wave as well as on the properties of media. A particular case when longitudinal wave reflects at free surface of micropolar viscoelastic solid has been deduced and discussed. From the present investigation, a special case when fluid saturated porous half space reduces to empty porous solid has also been deduced and discussed with the help of graphs. تفاصيل المقالة

The effect of magnetic field on torsional waves propagating in non-homogeneous viscoelastic cylindrically aeolotropic material is discussed. The elastic constants and non-homogeneity in viscoelastic medium in terms of density and elastic constant is taken. The frequency equations have been derived in the form of a determinant involving Bessel functions. Dispersion equation in each case has been derived and the graphs have been plotted showing the effect of variation of elastic constants and the presence of magnetic field. The obtained dispersion equations are in agreement with the classical result. The numerical calculations have been presented graphically by using MATLAB. تفاصيل المقالة
