Repairing cracked aerial structures using patches is a common way to restore mechanical properties, strength and extend fatigue life. The performance of such patches can be obtained by comparing the maximum amount of force tolerated by the repaired piece with the unrepaired piece. The shape and dimensions of the patch used to repair the crack and the way the patch is bonded affect the repair quality which are of great importance. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate the factors affecting the diffusion bonding between the patch and the piece. The impact of the shape of the aluminum patch attached on a 10 mm central crack piece and perpendicular to the loading direction (mode I) is studied experimentally and numerically. The optimum conditions for the diffusion connection including the pressure, time and temperature of the connection were obtained experimentally using a composite rotatable centered design and in the connection made under these conditions, the patch shape and aspect ratio was considered as variables of design, and the results were obtained for square, rectangular, circular and elliptical patches. At the end, it was found that the best connection under the pressure conditions of 570 °C, 70 bar and 100 min was formed and the rectangular patch efficiency was greater whereas its extent is more in line with crack than the other modes. At a fixed area, the different patch geometries investigated in this study were able to influence up to 80% of the maximum force tolerated by the repaired parts. Also, there is an acceptable convergence between experimental and numerical results. تفاصيل المقالة

In this paper a composite plate with similar unidirectional fibers is considered. Assuming orthotropic structure, theory of elasticity is used for investigating the stress concentration. Also, complex variable functions are utilized for solving the plane stress problems. Then the effective characteristicsof this plate are studied numerically by using ANSYS software. In this research a volume element of fibers in square array is considered. In order to investigate the numerical finite element modeling, the modeling of a quarter unit cell is considered. For determining the elasticity coefficients, stress analysis is performed for considered volume with noting to boundary conditions. Effective elasticity and mechanical properties of composite which polymer epoxy is considered as its matrix, are determined theoretically and also by the proposed method in this paper with finite element method. Finally, the variations of mechanical properties with respect to fiber-volume fraction are studied. تفاصيل المقالة

In this paper, the effects of carbon nanotube (CNT) orientation and aggregation on the static behavior of functionally graded nanocomposite cylinders reinforced by CNTs are investigated based on a mesh-free method. The used nanocomposites are made of the straight CNTs that are embedded in an isotropic polymer as matrix. The straight CNTs are oriented, randomly or aligned or local aggregated into some clusters. The volume fractions of the CNTs and clusters are assumed variable along the thickness, so mechanical properties of the carbon nanotube reinforced composite cylinders are variable and are estimated based on the Eshelby–Mori–Tanaka approach. The obtained mechanical properties are verified by experimental and theoretical results that are reported in literatures. In the mesh-free analysis, moving least squares (MLSs) shape functions are used for approximation of displacement field in the weak form of equilibrium equation. Also, the effects of CNT distribution type and cylinder thickness are investigated on the stress distribution and displacement field of these cylinders. تفاصيل المقالة
