ریشه‌های آنیکونیسم در سنت و فرهنگ یهودی و بازتاب آن در دوران مدرن

ملخص المقالة :

شمایل پرهیزی اصطلاحی نسبتاً جدید و برساخته در دوره‌ی مدرن است که ابتدا برای توصیف هنر یونان باستان ابداع شد ولی بعدا با هدفِ تضییع و تحقیر هنر یهودی متداول گشت. همزمان با توسعه‌ی جنبش‌های ناسیونالیستی در اروپای پس از روشنگری، مورخان هنر با استناد به ممنوعیت تصاویر در فرمان دوم، به انتقاد از فقدان هنر بصری و شمایلی در فرهنگ یهود پرداختند. پژوهش‌های بعدی و شواهد باستان‌شناسی، عده‌ای از اندیشمندان یهود را متقاعد کرد که فرض شمایل‌پرهیزی یهودی، صرفا منشأ قرن نوزدهمی دارد. بنابراین نوعی دوگانگی در این‌باره به‌وجود آمد و درحالی‌که عده‌ای آن را مورد نکوهش قرار می‌دادند، عده‌ای دیگر به آن همچون فضیلتی اخلاقی و انحصاری در یهودیت می‌نگریستند که در نهایت از طرفی در خدمت اهداف جدلی و سیاست‌های هویتی- ناسیونالیستیِ معاصر قرار گرفت و از سوی دیگر به زمینه‌ای برای هنر انتزاعی قرن بیستم تبدیل شد. با‌ این‌‌حال نمی‌توان انکار کرد که یهودیان در برخی ادوار، به شمایل‌پرهیزی سخت پایبند بوده‌اند.این مقاله با بررسی مهم‌ترین زمینه‌های شکل‌گیری فرهنگ شمایل‌پرهیزی در یهودیت، نشان می‌دهد که این فرهنگ، در دوران پیشا‌مدرن نیز- همچنان‌که در دوران مدرن و پساهولوکاست- بیشتر امری متأثر از شرایط اجتماعی- سیاسی‌ بوده است تا یک منع الهیاتی.
