We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. The model which is a development of Fazlollahtabar and Saidi-Mehrabad (2013), considers two features of automated flexible manufacturing systems equipped with automated guided vehicle (AGV) namely, the reliability of machines and the reliability of AGVs in a multiple AGV jobshop manufacturing system. The current methods for modeling reliability of a system involve determination of system state probabilities and transition states. Since, the failure of the machines and AGVs could be considered in different states, therefore a Markovian model is proposed for reliability assessment. The traditional Markovian computation is compared with a neural network methodology. Monte Carlo simulation has verified the neural network method having better performance for Markovian computations. We compare two approaches for a Markovian model in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) using Monte Carlo simulation. This paper studies the parallel machine scheduling problem subject to machine and job deterioration in a batched delivery system. By the machine deterioration effect, we mean that each machine deteriorates over time, at a different rate. Moreover, job processing times are increasing functions of their starting times and follow a simple linear deterioration. The objective functions are minimizing total tardiness, delivery, holding and machine deteriorating costs. The problem of total tardiness on identical parallel machines is NP-hard, thus the under investigation problem, which is more complicated, is NP-hard too. In this study, a mixed-integer programming (MILP) model is presented and an efficient hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) is proposed to solve the concerned problem. A new crossover and mutation operator and a heuristic algorithm have also been proposed depending on the type of problem. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed model and solution procedure, a set of small to large test problems are generated and results are discussed. The related results show the effectiveness of the proposed model and GA for test problems. Manuscript profile

Reducing cost of material handling has been a big challenge for companies. Flexible manufacturing system employed automated guided vehicles (AGV) to maintain efficiency and flexibility. This paper presents a new non-linear mathematical programming model to group n machines into N loops, to make an efficient configuration for AGV system in Tandem layout. The model minimizes both inter-loop, intra-loop flow and use balanced-loops strategy to balance workload in system simultaneously. This paper significantly considers multiple-load AGVs, which has capability of reducing fleet size and waiting time of works. A modified variable neighborhood search method is applied for large size problems, which has good accuracy for small and medium size problems. The results indicate that using multiple load AGV instead of single load AGV will reduce system penalty cost up to 44%. Manuscript profile

Warranty is a powerful implement for marketing strategy that is used by manufacturersand creates satisfaction for consumers by ensuring to compensate for incorrect operation of the product. Warranty serviceresults ina cost named warranty cost for a manufacturer. This cost is a function of warranty policy, regions, and product failures pattern. Since this service coversthe cost of uncertain failure of the product, it makes some utility for customers. In this paper, we developed a novel customer utility function that is used as a customer objective to be maximized. In addition to the manufacturer objective, minimizing the warranty costisconsidered simultaneously. There are four restrictions on warranty parameters such as time, usage, unit product price and the R&D expenditure to be considered. Finally, we will propose a novel bi-objective model that maximizesthe utility function for customers and minimizesthe warranty cost for the manufacturer. This model will be solved with an evolutionary algorithmcalled Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II) and non-dominated Pareto solutionswill be gained from this method. To give a numerical instance, for a certain usage rate’s range of costumers, different warranties are provided and compared. It is believed that the computational results can help manufacturers to determine optimal solutions for the objective functions and consequentlywarranty parameters. Manuscript profile

Concerning global warming and the Greenhouse gas (GHG) effect, clean energy resources have captured researchers' interest recently. Biomass materials are among important biofuels and bioenergy production resources that have the potential to replace fossil fuels. Using biomass materials leads to a decline in GHG emission and air pollution levels, not being dependent on fossil fuels, and provide energy security. Due to the importance of bioenergy and biofuels, a multi-product, multi-period, and green mathematical model has been developed to improve economic and environmental objectives for bioethanol and the electricity supply chain. It includes the following decisions: determining production centers' location and capacity, technology selection, determining inventory holding level, biomass type selection, allocation, amount of material flow, and determining transportation modes. In this study, a scenario-based robust compromise programming approach (SRCP) is developed for the bi-objective solution of the provided mathematical model and determining Pareto optimal points under uncertain conditions. Finally, the performance and effectiveness of SRCP are provided, and the results obtained from the case study in Iran are analyzed. According to the results, Annual electricity and bioethanol production capacity are at least 8000 million kWh and 1250 kton, respectively, satisfying 10% of electricity and 5% of gasoline demand in 6 provinces of Iran. The sensitivity analysis also shows that equal weight for both objectives can be more logical for decision makers. Manuscript profile

This paper is in search of designing the cellular manufacturing systems (CMSs) under dynamic and flexible environment. CM is proper for small-to-medium lot production environment that helps the companies to produce variable kind of productions with at least scraps. The most important benefits of CM are decline in material handling, reduction in work-in-process, reduction in set-up time, increment in flexibility, improved quality, and shorter lead time. In this research A multi-objective mixed integer model is presented that considers some real-world critical conditions same as costs of multi-period cell formation and production planning , human resource assignment to cells and balancing workload of cells. This model groups the parts and machines concurrently with labor assignment This study aims to 1) minimize various costs including reassignment cost of human resource, the batch inter-cell material handling cost, constant and variable cost of machines, relocation and purchase cost of machines, 2) minimize cell load variation and 3) maximize utilization rate of human resource. The model is complicate, so it is verified with Lingo 8. 0. Soft ware. Since particle swarm optimization approach less than many other metaheuristic approaches have been applied to solve multi-objective CMS problems so far, we utilize this method to solve our model. The results are presented at the last part. Manuscript profile

In order to implement the cellular manufacturing system in practice, some essential factors should be taken into account. In this paper, a new mathematical model for cellular manufacturing system considering different production factors including alternative process routings and machine reliability with stochastic arrival and service times in a dynamic environment is proposed. Also because of the complexity of the given problem, a Benders’ decomposition approach is applied to solve the problem efficiently. In order to verify the performance of proposed approach, some numerical examples are generated randomly in hypothetical limits and solved by the proposed solution approach. The comparison of the implemented solution algorithm with the conventional mixed integer linear and mixed integer non linear models verifies the efficiency of Benders’ decomposition approach especially in terms of computational time.
