This study investigates the fatigue life of a cracked plate subjected to cyclic load under linear elastic fracture mechanics, using a numerical method of extended isogeometric analysis (XIGA) with a K-refinement approach. XIGA is applied to simulate discontinuity problems without meshing and without the necessity for element boundaries to be aligned to crack faces. In this method, the crack faces are simulated by discontinuous Heaviside functions, whereas the singularity in the stress field at the crack tip is simulated by crack tip enrichment functions. The stress intensity factors for the cracks are numerically calculated using the interaction integral method. Paris law of fatigue crack growth is utilized for predicting the fatigue life of a cracked plate. In the standard finite element analysis, there is no refinement method similar to k-refinement. The effect of the k-refinement on the accuracy of the values stress intensity factor and fatigue life is investigated. To achieve this, the order of Non-uniform rational B-Splines (NURBS) basic function is considered as linear, quadratic, and cubic. It is observed that as NURBS orders are increased in k-refinement, results are improved, and the error is lower compared with the analytical solution. The results show that values of stress intensity factor and fatigue life obtained using XIGA are more accurate compared to those obtained by the finite element method. In addition, and they are closer to the results of the analytical solution, and the XIGA method is more efficient. پرونده مقاله

In this study, the size-dependent free vibration analysis of a geometrically imperfect single-layer graphene sheet (SLGS) is studied by an isogeometric approach along with the quasi-3D shear and normal deformation theory. Initial geometric imperfections alter the natural frequencies of the graphene sheets that may exist inherently or purposely created by researchers. The initial curvature is modelled by an analytical function in the governing Equations of the plate. A 4-variable quasi-3D theory with a seventh-order distribution function is used to include both shear deformation and thickness stretching influences. A weak form of a nonlocal plate for free vibration analysis is derived that requires the first-order continuity of the displacement fields. Inherent high-order continuity of non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) basis functions in isogeometric analysis can meet this condition. A comparison between the present study and other published works reveals the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method in imperfect SLGS. The results of the present study show a significant effect of initial geometric imperfection on the natural frequency of single-layer graphene sheets. پرونده مقاله

Isogeometric analysis is the recent development in the field of engineering analysis with high performance computing and greater precision. This current research has opened a new door in the field of structural optimisation. The main focus of this research study is to perform topology optimisation of continuum structures in civil engineering using Isogeometric analysis. The continuum structures analysed here in this study are reinforced concrete, steel and laminated composite plates. Reinforced concrete is a rational union of concrete and steel. Topology optimisation of reinforced concrete structures is an emerging area of study to determine the optimal layout of material in the concrete domain. Laminated structures are made of several layers of material and bonded to achieve high stiffness and low weight to strength ratio. The deformed shape at the optimal state can be determined with topology optimisation of laminated composites. The formulation for composite plates is done using kirchoff thin plate theory without any shear contribution. B-splines are used to model the geometry. The objective is to optimise the energy of the structure and optimality criteria is used to calculate the newer values of relative densities. First order sensitivity analysis is performed to determine the newer values of objective function. The code is written in MatLab® and a few problems have been solved with different domains. The results are verified and have shown a good agreement with those in the literature. پرونده مقاله

Analysis of the laminated composite plates under transverse loading is considered using the new method of Isogeometric Analysis (IGA). Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines(NURBS)are used as shape functions for modeling the geometry of the structure and also are used as shape functions in the analysis process. To show robustness of the new technique, some examples are represented and are compared with the theoretical method at the end. The obtained results show the efficiency of the method. پرونده مقاله
