Abstract :

The ‌‌Gabion dams are small structures that constructed for reduction of flow rate and streams gradient to inhibit erosion in streams. Constructing gabion dams in the Sub-basin causes changes in the concentration time and has a significant influence on runoff. Khayiz Sub-basin is located in the County of Iran's Khuzestan Province, is one of the very important basin. In this basin during the rainy season, floods cause erosion of the region and transfer of abundant sediments downstream. In this study, by studying the area and topographic conditions and protection operations, concentration time changes and retention coefficient, flood discharge before and after protection operations have been compared. Hence, the parameters of the number and height of dams, soil hydrological group, stream slope, concentration time, hydrology of the area and basin area, sedimentation volume of structures were investigated. It can be concluded that the construction of gabion dams alone cannot have a significant impact on runoff control and the simultaneous implementation of other watershed management operations such as biological and biomechanical operations is essential to achieve the objectives of the study.
