Investigation of the Behavior of CFRP-Reinforced Concrete Flat-Plates under Impact Loading Compared to Unreinforced Flat-Plates

This study investigates the behavior of concrete flat-plates reinforced with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) under impact loading from heavy falling objects. The primary objective is to evaluate the effect of CFRP reinforcement on enhancing the performance of concrete flat-plates compared to unreinforced ones under severe dynamic loads. Numerical models were developed using finite element software and initially validated against existing experimental data to ensure simulation accuracy. Subsequently, the behavior of reinforced and unreinforced flat-plates under impact loads of varying intensities was thoroughly analyzed. The findings demonstrate significant improvements in the reinforced flat-plates, including reduced displacement, controlled crack propagation, increased energy absorption capacity, and enhanced structural durability under dynamic loads. This research underscores the necessity of using CFRP in designing impact-resistant concrete structures and provides strategies for optimizing flat-plate design in industrial, infrastructural, and high-load environments. The results offer valuable guidance for engineers and designers in selecting effective reinforcement methods for concrete structures exposed to dynamic loads.
