Purpose: The present investigation focuses on the scope and familiarity with Web 2.0 displayed by academic librarians in the city of Tabriz. It aims to find a scale by which to ascertain the tendency and preparedness of librarians to adopt the said technology.
Methodology: A survey was implemented using a questionnaire devised by the researchers. Thirty five librarians were surveyed
Findings: familiarity and use of Web 2.0 tools by librarians was (2.5) and (2.7). Findings: The average of Familiarity with each of the Web 2.0 tools was; Blogs (3.25), social networking (3), RSS (2.65), wiki (2.5), instant messaging (2.22), social bookmarks (2/2), podcasts (2), online image sharing (1.94). In addition, rate of acceptance for welcoming web 2.0 technologies in future was (3.7).
Conclusion: Some academic librarians were well versed in Web 2.0 tools such as weblogs, wikis, RSS and various social networks. However, in general, there had been limited knowledge concerning podcasts, photograms and social bookmarking. While librarians displayed high aptitude in employing weblogs, photograms and other forms of online in which image sharing were in the least. They displayed, however, a high rate of acceptance for welcoming web 2.0 technologies in future. Primary impediment in using Web 2.0 stemmed from inadequate training.
