During the Islamic middle ages, besiegement was considered as one of the most frequent forms of military action. In order to ruin the resistance of the castle and take down the strong fenced cities, the raiders used various tricks, techniques, tools, and devices. Using ballistic devices, especially catapults, was extremely effective and determinative at the time. This  article provides a documental description of various attack and defense functions of heavy ballistic armaments in castle wars of the Islamic period and examines  how the utilisation of these kinds of weapons as a common technique in castle wars, is affecting the outcome of military operations during this historical period. It also showed that the aim of applying these armaments, the physical and destructive operational power, was not the only thing relied on, but it was partly for their ability to spread fear and panic and as a result, pushing a kind of psychological warfare against the enemy. Throughout the history of Islam, the different ways of fightingrequired the use of various weapons. During the Islamic middle ages, most cities possessed the defensive walls. Thus, the method of siegewarfare was considered as the common way in the battles. In suchbattles, heavy launching weapons, especially catapults, were veryuseful. However, the types of projectile weapons had the greatestimpact on achieving success. In catapult projectiles the stone was usedat first, but it was developed over the time. In later periods, explosiveprojectiles were invented with a significant damage that could blowthe city's barriers. In this study, after a short review on the evolutionof catapult projectiles, we shall analyze the various types of theseprojectiles and their performance Manuscript profile

During movement in different flying levels, ballistic objects can endure various forces, which depend on the strength of different parts of the intended body at the time of their design and manufacturing. Among the forces resulting from aerodynamic equations, lift and drag forces could be noted. These two forces depend on characteristics such as the angle of attack. In the present paper, a Shahab-3 ballistic missile (manufactured in Iran) has been evaluated by simulating in the software Najm. This software can be used to analyze the ballistic objects. This work were analyzed in two stages, once with the attack angle of 2 degree and once again with the angle equal to 8 degree. After performing the investigations, it was determined that in the attack angle of 2 degree the forces created in the body of ballistic object do not develop any critical pressure or tension. However, in the attack angle of 8 degree, the lateral pressure starts from the length of 8 m from the object’s tip and it reaches the critical point in the end area, which complies with reality. Moreover, the lift-to-drag coefficient ratio that is considered as a characteristic of aerodynamic analysis is much more suitable for angle of 2 degree. Manuscript profile

In this paper, the experimental, numerical, and analytical investigation ‎of a blunt rigid projectile to the steel targets is discussed, Therefore, in ‎the first part, the experimental tests are carried out to find the depth of ‎penetration and the projectiles are cylindrical in diameter 10 mm and 20 ‎mm in length with AISI 52100 and steel plates with dimensions of 120 × ‎‎100×10 are selected from AISI 1045. In the second part, the numerical ‎simulation of the impact model in the Abacus software is carried out ‎and the accuracy of the numerical model is verified with 8% error rate ‎of the numerical solution with the experimental results. In the third ‎section, presents an‏ ‏analytical model derived‏ ‏from the Chen analytical‏ ‏model and obtain the depth of projectile penetration. Finally, a ‎comparison between experimental, numerical and analytical results is ‎performed, the results obtained in three solutions (experimental, ‎Numerical and analytical) have acceptable agreement.‎ Manuscript profile

he expansion of anti-missile system of the United States has led to several reactions from other international actors. Some of the Western countries especially the United States’ allies consider the deployment of these systems as providing their security and the stability of international system. On the other hand countries like China and in particular Russia consider these systems as a destabilizing factor for international security and disrupting the nuclear deterrence and therefore a threat to their security. The present descriptive analytical paper examines the relations between the United States anti-missile system and nuclear deterrence. For this reason it defines the concept and the characteristic of nuclear deterrence strategy and missile defense system and then examines the relation of these two concepts before the Cold War and after of the end of Cold War. The finding is that during the Cold War the anti-missile system were in the direction of stabilizing balance of power, therefore, it led to stability but after the end of Cold War, though in the face of it is defensive but in reality it is offensive and it ignores the balancing strategy and it is in the direction of military-nuclear superiority.
