Due to his destructive role Alexander is remembered as an evil and ominous figure in older Persian sources. But, due to the influence of the Greek mythology and culture, recent sources have provided his figure with an aura of greatness and virtue. Scholars well know that Alexander is not given a positive picture in Shahnameh, although they mention two evidences from the text which do not go with this total picture, namely his description as a brother to Darius III, and his being the subject of a long episode in Shahnameh, the latter being regarded as the sign of the high value put on him by Ferdowsi. In this article, we will use the structuralism approach to prove that the claimed brotherhood of Alexander and Darius III is not to compensate the defeat and restore national pride, but to serve as a satire against the rulers whose ineptitude and treason pave the ground for the coming of the invaders. The lengthy treatment of Alexander's character is also due to the fact that he is the founder of the long-lasting Seleucia Dynasty, regardless of how destructive his invasion was. Denunciations of his action and devaluation of his ancestry prove this argument. Here, research data have collected by analytical By library approach and have processed by analytical and descriptive methods. Manuscript profile

Old Persian is the name applied to a language variety used in the cuneiform inscription of the Achaemenian kings (6th to 4th century BC). This language actually represents a language variety spoken in Persia. that can be localized as the language of southwestern Persia. Old Persian has some characteristic features of a stylistic and literary language. In the inscription called the Inscription of Tomb which is written beside the entrance door of the tomb of Darius and also known as DNb inscription, Darius tries to introduce himself in terms of utopian king. The DNb has talken the form of royal custom. Darius likes to reflect himself in that way and by means of this sends a message to the people throughout the world. If one compares other writings of Darius with the tomb inscription, which is considered as Darius' last words, he/she may imagine that this inscription may be a kind of will (testament). The last part of Darius' inscription includes ten lines denoting a sort of advise to a young who will probably join the immortal soldiers and future commanders. In addition, Darius emphasized largely on other features like ethical issues and subjects in this inscription. Manuscript profile

The art of inscription writing represents a valuable legacy that delves into the political wisdom of Iranians. The content of these inscriptions, as implied by their name, comprises ethical, religious, political, and social admonitions from the elite and statesmen of the time to the sovereign. The epistolary style of the inscriptions paints a portrait of the ideal king and the aspirations of Iranian elites. By considering them as a crystallization of one of the most important forms of wisdom, one can identify a ruler who possesses both Iranian and ancient roots as the ideal king. This paper explores the concepts and structures of Darius the Great's rule by studying the Behistun Inscription. Here, the structures of the ideal ruler in the Behistun Inscription, using the phenomenological method and within the theoretical framework of Parato Elitism, are examined in both the mental and tangible dimensions. It seeks to answer the question: What are the attributes of the ideal ruler in the Behistun Inscription? What characteristics should this ruler possess to be recognized as the ideal sovereign, beyond obtaining the competence of governance?. Manuscript profile

After establishing the Land of Persia by Cyrus the Great, The Achaemenid Empire, as the most powerful Aryan state, conquered most of the great powers of Asia. After the death of Cyrus, Cambyses invaded Egypt in 525 BC and occupied it by taking advantage of country's turbulent condition and dissatisfaction of people. Also Dariush I, after gaining power, paid special attention to Egypt, because he wanted to expand the Achaemenid realm. Furthermore, Egypt was a civilized and wealthy country, thus he could increase the wealth of his own nation and at the same time weakened the Greek Empire by not allowing them to obtain Egypt’s wealth. The contrast between tradition and modernity has always been criticized throughout the history of political thought, and many thinkers have presented their views in this field in the Western and Islamic worlds. Meanwhile, the concept of modernity in the thought of Dariush Shayegan as a free thinker and Seyed Hossein Nasr as a traditional thinker and theorist is examined in this research. The theoretical framework of the research is a combination of Carl Gustav Jung's collective psychoanalysis and other hermeneutics theories. This research aims to answer the question, what is the approach of Dariush Shayegan and Seyed Hossein Nasr in facing modernity? The findings of the research also indicate that Dariush Shayegan as an Iranian thinker and intellectual underwent important changes during his intellectual life, and for this reason, his early views have very significant differences with his later opinions. On the other hand, Seyed Hossein Nasr, like Shayegan, is an ardent critic and opponent of modernity, and he believes that reforming religion leads to the deconstruction of religion and that there is no end except secularism and anti-religion. But his full-length defense of religious pluralism makes it difficult to make a final judgment about his thoughts. The method of descriptive analytical research and the method of collecting data is documentary. Manuscript profile

AbstractSince there is no trace of Achaemenids in Shahnameh and Khodaynameh in the Sasanid era and since the beginnings of the studies on Sasanid dynasty the discussion revolved around whether Sasanian had any knowledge of Achaemenids or not.  Certain figures such as Noldeke, Memzan, and Yarshater denied this awareness and certain others such as Fry, Shahbazi, and Zarrinkoub persisted upon this knowledge.  Some like Daryaei, taking a more moderate approach, believe that Sasanian had consciously ignored Achaemanids memorial so that they could trace their genealogy to Kianis who were an ancient dynasty in the east Iran.  Certain evidence and documents show that the earliest Sasanians were definitely aware of the existence of Achaemenids and related themselves to them, however the later Sasanids by deliberate distortion of history and by transforming characters have changed the Achaemenid portraits due to their own taste to achieve their political and religious purposes.  Nevertheless, Achaemeinds new image and identity remained in the Sasanid historiography and found their way to Islamic era.   Deliberate distortions made in history of Iran by Sasanids are proved today, and upon studying the evidence one can discover the extent and the reason for this manipulation.  The purpose of this article is to prove the existence of outstanding figures in Achaemenids dynasty namely, Cyrus and Darius in the new Sasanid-Islamic historiography, and also to detect records that approve Achaemenids’ existence within the Sasanid sources.  This requires a thorough research into the thought processes of Sasanids during their reign upon adopting an apprehensive approach.   Manuscript profile
