Introduction & Objective: Emerging contaminants of nanoparticles in aquatic ecosystems cause stress response in aquatic animals and decrease their immune function. Therefore, use of immune stimuli such as prebiotics is very necessary. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different levels of prebiotic Pleurotus ostreatus on hematological indices of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) exposed to silver nanoparticles. Materials and Methods: 120 fish were distributed for 42 days in 4 treatments (3 replicates): control (1), no prebiotic fungi, treatment (2) food containing 0.05, treatment (3) food containing 0.1 and treatment (4) food contained 0.2% prebiotic. Then, 0.5 ppm of silver nanoparticles was exposed to each group for 16 days and blood parameters were examined. Results: Prebiotic alone had no significant effect on erythrocyte count, mean cell volume (MCV), mean cell hemoglobin (MCH), mean erythrocyte hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), hematocrit, hemoglobin, white blood cell (P <0.05) but exposure to silver nanoparticles and prebiotic in combination increased the mentioned factors compared to the control and prebiotic treatments alone. However, the levels of white blood cells and erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and MCH were higher than the other treatments in the combination of 0.2 prebiotic and silver nanoparticles. Conclusion: Oral probiotics stimulate non-specific immunity in tilapia, the combined use of nano-silver and prebiotic mushrooms increase the amount of blood indices and reduce the destructive effects of nano-silver on blood indices. It is concluded that the 0.2% prebiotic level could have the best effect on the blood indices of tilapia. Manuscript profile

To study the effect of copper toxicity on some hematological indices of Acipenser nudiventris, a group of 120 fish were exposed to different concentrations of copper nitrate (Cu(NO3)2) (0, 1, 5, 10 mg/lit). The results showed that the level of hemoglobin (Hb) was increased with the increase in the concentration of copper and also time (P < 0.05). For the concentrations of 5 and 10 mg/lit, the numbers of red blood cells (RBC) were considerably reduced after 24 hours (P < 0.05). After 24 hours, the percent of hematocrit (Hct) was increased and the number of white cells (WBC) was decreased, and the volume of red blood cells (MCV) was considerably increased for all concentrations (P < 0.05). The average of hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) did not change and was the same in all concentrations after 24 and 48 hours (P ≥ 0.05) but was increased considerably after 72 and 96 hours (P < 0.05). The average of hemoglobin concentration (MCH) was increased considerably in 10 mg/lit concentration after 24, but was increased considerably in 1 mg/lit after 72 and 96 hours (P < 0.05). The results of differentiation counting of leucocytes showed that with increase in copper concentration and time, the number of lymphocytes in the 5 and 10 mg/lit concentrations were decreased considerably after 24 hours, but were increased in 1 mg/lit concentration after 48 hours (P < 0.05). The number of monocytes was considerably decreased after 24 and 48 hours in all concentrations, but was considerably increased in 1 mg/lit after 72 hours (P < 0.05). The number of eutrophil was considerably increased in 5 and 10 mg/lit after 24 hours, but was considerably decreased in 1 mg/lit after 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). The study showed that although the copper is an essential element for most of physiologic processes but it showed severe toxic effects on the Acipenser nudiventris, Manuscript profile

Blood parameters often are used as indicator for stress and health condition evaluation in fishes. The aim of this study was to compare the blood and biochemical indices between stellate sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus) and Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio). In total, 20 brood stock fish (including 10 of each species) were selected and blood samples were taken. Results showed that mean levels of red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC), haematocrit (Hct), hemoglobin (Hb), cholesterol and osmolarity in Common Carp were more than Stellate sturgeon and showed no significant difference (P>0.05). Differential count of leucocytes showed that mean level of lymphocytes percent in A. stellatus was more than C.carpio, whileneutrophile, Eosynophile and monocyte in C.carpio were morethan A. stellatus with no significant difference (P>0.05). Mean level of Glucose in C.carpio was significantly more than A. stellatus (P<0.05). Mean levels of triglyceride, albumin and total protein in A.stellatus was significantly more than C.carpio (P<0.05). Cytomorphological parameters of RBC such as cell area, nucleus area and MCV in A.stellatus was significantly more than C. carpio. The results indicated that the levels of some blood parameters were different between stellate sturgeons (Acipenser stellatus) in comparison with Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) which can be related to their difference in development levels.
