Giardiasis has a close relation with improper sanitation, consumption of contaminated water and foods and might be lead to malabsorption syndrome and nutritional deficiency. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the occurrence of giardiasis among the food staff in Bandarabbas and also to determine the concentration of serum albumin in infected individuals. In a cross-sectional study which was conducted in a 6 months period, a total of 11080 fecal samples of the food staff rerrered to the Research Center of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences, was examined. Then, 30 Giardia-positive together with 30 Giardia-negative individuals were chosen for further investigation. At this step, the concentration of serum albumin were evaluated in both groups. According to the results, 30 (0.27%) of the samples were positive for Giardia lamblia. The level of serum albumin in infected and healthy people were determined at 46.8 g/l and 53.9 g/l, respectively. Moreover, 66% of the fecal samples had normal condensation and 76% were intensively contaminated. Results revealed that 90% of the infected cases were male, urban and vegetable consumers. In addition, the age of 66% of the cases was between 20 to 30. The concentration of serum albumin in patients with giardiasis was significantly (p< 0.05) lower than the control group which might be related to malabsorption. Based on results, the consumption of raw vegetable seems to play an important role in transmission of Giardia infection. In addition, high occurrence of intensively contaminated patients together with the high rate of the individuals without clinical manifestations, reveals the Giardia hidden carriers. Regarding the occurrence of giardiasis among the food staff and considering the importance of their role in public health, the necessity for hygienic measures are reemphasized.  Manuscript profile

The genera Cryptosporidium and Giardia are among the most common protozoal parasites causing small intestinal abnormalities of dogs.  In this study, 200 fecal samples of herd and guard dogs were collected randomly from different rural areas around Mahabad city and referred to the laboratory after stabilization with formalin and polyvinyl alcohol solutions. Samples were microscopically studied using concentration method followed by the Trichrome-Gumurian and modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining techniques. In general, 9 (4.5%) and 31 (15.5%) of the studied dogs were infected with Cryptosporidium and Giardia respectively. The highest incidence of cryptosporidium was observed in dogs less than 6 months (10.43%) and the lowest incidence was in the age group more than 4 years (1.54%). The highest levels of Giardia infection were found in the 6-12 months age group (25%) and the lowest in the 1-4 years age group (8.62%). The prevalence of infection with cryptosporidium and giardia in male dogs was 4.67% and 14.95%, respectively, and 4.30% and 16.13% in female dogs, respectively. The prevalence of both protozoa in male and female dogs as well as in different age groups was not statistically significant. There were no significant relation between age and gender with prevalence of both parasites. However, the level of infection with both Cryptosporidium and Giardia protozoa in dogs with inappropriate sanitation was higher than those with proper sanitary status, but this difference was not statistically significant. Giardia, Entamoeba, Isospora and Cryptosporidium are important protozoan parastites that caused diarrhea in human and animals. In the present study, fecal samples were collected fresh, directly from the rectum of 112 stray dogs in Ilam province. Giardia and Entamoeba were concentrated by using the formalin ether sedimentation method followed by the trichrome and iodine staining technique andCryptosporidium  oocysts  were  concentrated  by  using  the  formalin  ether  sedimentation  method  followed by the modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining technique. Of 112 stray dogs, protozoan infections were detected from feces of 46 dogs (41.07%) that Giardia infection was detected from feces of 21 dogs (18.75%), Isospora 17 (15.17%), Cryptosporidium 8 (7.14%) and synchronization infection to 2 protozoan in 9 dogs (8.03%) and to 3 protozoan in 3 (2.67%). In the present study not observed to Entamoeba. No statistically significant differences in prevalence of protozoan parasites occurred between female (34.21 %) and male (55.5 %) stray dogs (p>0/05). But statistically significant differences in prevalence occurred between 1≥0 and 0 ≥1 stray dogs (p>0/05). So that stray dogs of Ilam province can cause infection of human water and food sources.   Manuscript profile

The aim of this study was to determine the efficiency of water treatment plants and water supply network Susangerd remove parasites Giardia lamblia (Giardilamblia) parvum and Cryptosporidium (Cryptosporidium parvum), respectively. The total number of samples taken on the basis of the population of 16 samples was 0.400 liters of water through the filter of 5 microns. The 5 micron filter mud samples collected from different areas in the laboratory by laboratory instruments, including brushes, spoons, sterile, man, Arlene was separated and distilled water. After sedimentation and centrifugation by Lam Sdvyk Raftr and parasites by microscopy to view Aynvryt were counted. Tests pH, turbidity, total dissolved solids, residual chlorine and fecal coliform were performed according to standard procedures in 1011. The average number of counted Lamylya Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum in drinking water distribution Susangerd 3 Dddr Lytrbvd 9 per liter. Average turbidity and chlorine residual distribution network NTU6.6 network mg / l 8/0 and utilities output remains Klrbaqy 1.2mg / l respectively. Giardiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the flagellate protozoan Giardia lamblia (synonyms: Giardia intestinalis and Giardia duodenalis). The characteristic of this disease are including worldwide distribution, high prevalence, and significant morbidity. Different studies relieved that the thymol content available in some medicinal plants has anti-giardiasis effect. Hence, based on adequate thymol in contents of both, Satureja sahandica and Origanum vulgare extracts, the aim of present research was comparison the effect of Satureja sahandica and Origanum vulgare Extracts with metronidazole on Giardia lamblia in vitro condition. In this experimental-laboratory study, 500 µl of each of 10, 100 and 200 mg/L concentrations of extracts and 125 mg/L of metronidazole was added to 500 µl of purified giardia cysts, respectively. In control groups normal saline used whereas these agents. The giardicidal activity of the extracts was measured 30, 60 and 120 min (s) after exposure through 0.1% eosin dye staining and microscopic enumeration method. Minimum, maximum and means lethal concentrations of treatments were calculated after three times in each group. Results relieved that anti-giardicidal effects of both extracts significantly increased due to rising the concentration and time. Based on present study findings and in accordance with others, it seems thymol content of SS and OV extracts were responsible for their anti-giardial activity. Meanwhile, further studies needed for clarify their exact mechanism of actions Manuscript profile
