Mirza Abolghasem Ghaem Magham has been an influential political character in Iranian contemporary history; he also has some valuable works in Persian literature. What enables researchers today to be more thoroughly familiar with the major part of his prose and verse is a precise and accurate analysis of his prose and verse works, the introduction of the outstanding features of his works, and the presentation of sufficient instances and evidence in every case. The expression of political pains in a pleasant language, the omission of the titles of letters, outspokenness, no inclination towards love meanings, and archaism are some features of his works. The present article first gives the research literature, then evaluates the basic features of Ghaem Magham’s works with prominent instances, and finally presents the results in a separate table for convenient and easy use. Iran, as one of the oldest countries in the world, has long had a kind of national identity and "nation" and this can be seen in the continuation of the name "Iran". The three building blocks of Iranian national identity are "being Iranian", "religion" and in the new era "modernity". The two ancient layers of Iranian national identity have long been more or less compatible with each other, and have and still have many overlapping elements. With the acquaintance of Iranians with the new world, it caused new awareness in this field and this awareness caused a change in this identity. Therefore, the main question of this research is how this change in the components of national identity was formed in the Qajar (pre-constitutional) era? This descriptive-analytical study has concluded that "archeology", "rewriting", "redefining the homeland" and "redefining the nation" and "shaping the idea of nationalism (in its modern sense)" are the most important components of the "new Iranian identity system". Epic Archaism (Distinct feature of the style used in Qaysarnameh written by Adib Pishavari)   *Safa Kazemian Moghadam PhD student, Persian language and Literature, Ferdowsi University, Mashhad, Iran. **Farzad Ghaemi Assistant Professor, Persian language and literature, Ferdowsi University, Mashhad, Iran. Date of reception: 96/10/11 Date of acceptance: 96/12/6 Abstract Epic archaism is the simultaneous employment of epic as an influential and elevated style mingled with a form of archaism which lead to the sublimity of poet’s language. Qaysarnameh composed by Adib Pishavari is a complete example of using epic as a model blended with archaism as far as diction, syntax, and rhetoric are concerned.  This historic epic more than any other works in its era had remained devoted to the linguistic and literary traditions of his ancestors. Adib Pishavari has made tremendous effort to preserve Khorasani language.  Inspired by Shahnameh and using it as a model he took profound care to adhere to its style.  Archaism is one of the main reasons for preservation of epic language in Qaysarnameh.  This research studies different aspects of epic archaism in this work.  This quality in Adib’s poetry had found stylistic individuality in terms of diction, syntax and rhetoric.  Making words with new political, social, and military expressions, representation of Khorasani syntax and creation of compound images based on the ancient epic similes are among the principle features found in Qaysarnameh.     * . safakazemian@gmail.com ** . farzadghaemi@gmail.com Manuscript profile
