One of the most important characteristics of human relationship with the environment is the sense of belonging to the place, which plays a decisive role in maintaining the human presence in the place. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the social factors affecting the sense of belonging. sociological perspectives of Jacobs, Benjamin, Lynch, and Pakzad were used to construct the theoretical framework. Using a survey method and a questionnaire, 300 residents aged 18 years and older with more than ten years of residence in Bandar Abbas were selected by purposive and multi-stage cluster sampling.The collected data were described and analyzed by SPSS software using statistical methods such as frequency distribution, analysis of variance, Pearson correlation and regression. Research findings showed that the average for “feeling of belonging” (27.85) was reported as moderate to high. Factors such as length of stay, education and residential area affected the subjects' “feeling of belonging”. Also, the results of the inferential tests showed that there was a strong and significant relationship between social interactions, social security, neighborhood services, neighborhood cooperation, and landmarks and memorable places with citizens' sense of belonging. This means that by decreasing or increasing any of the above parameters, the degree of citizens' sense of belonging also changes accordingly. The results of regression test showed that the mentioned variables could explain (37%) of the sense of belonging of citizens
