Assessment of factors affecting the reduction of social deprivation among residents of informal settlements in Mashhad (Case Study: Golshahr Neighborhood)

Abstract :

Today, one of the most important spatial-physical challenges of cities is the expansion of informal settlements. Based on the content analysis of various researches, the residents of informal settlements are facing many problems. But in the meantime, one of the most important challenges of these residents is the feeling of deprivation and social exclusion. A problem that in practice has led to an increase in the social, economic, and political divide as well as the dissatisfaction of the residents of such settlements at the city level. The present research has been conducted in order to Assessment the factors affecting the reduction of social deprivation among the residents of Golshahr neighborhood of Mashhad. In this research, based on qualitative content analysis, effective factors on reducing social deprivation at the level of Golshahr neighborhood of Mashhad have been compiled. In the following, by referring to 40 experts and elites related to the topic of this research, using the hierarchical analysis method, these factors have been prioritized. The results of this research show that meeting the needs and access to the necessary facilities and services, recognizing the right to security of possession and residence, promoting awareness, knowledge and literacy level, training and job skills training, social involvement and participation, developing the necessary infrastructure and superstructure, enhancing environmental cleanliness and networking and expanding social networks are among the effective factors in reducing social deprivation among the residents of Golshahr neighborhood in Mashhad. From the point of view of experts, recognition of the right to security of possession and residence (with a score of 0.258), involvement and social participation (with a score of 0.219), and the development of the necessary infrastructure and superstructure (with a score of 0.150) are in the first to third places in terms of the most impact.
