Surveying the Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Group Therapy on Anxiety, Stress and Depression in Diabetic Children of 17 Shahrivar Hospital at Rasht City

Abstract :
In recent years, research on the effectiveness of different psychological treatments to help people with different physical diseases has bene increased. The overall goal of this study was to determine the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral group therapy treatment on anxiety, stress and depression in diabetic children in 17 Shahrivar Hospital at Rasht. Materials and Methods: This study is semi-experimental and the type of the pre-test and post-test control group. The statistical population of this study consists of all children with Type I diabetes who were admitted to 17 Shahrivar Hospital of Rasht for treatment from March 2013 until the beginning of July 2014. The statistical sample consisted of 30 people who were randomly divided into two experimental (n = 15) and control groups (n=15). And cognitive-behavioral group treatment program were done for experimental group for 12 sessions of 1-5 hours. And after completion of the treatment, posttest was performed on both groups. Variables of depression, stress and anxiety in the two groups of patients were discussed in two stages of pre-implementation and post-implementation. The instrument used in this study was specific questionnaire for depression, anxiety and stress DASS 42 and demographic questionnaire were used. In this study, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, t-test, pre-test and post-test (paired) and bivariate independent t-test were used which the data was analyzed by SPSS software. The mean scores of depression and anxiety in the pretest and posttest in experiment and control group shows that implementation of cognitive behavioral therapy reduced the rate of anxiety and reduce stress and depression in the patients had no significant influence. The present study revealed that cognitive behavioral therapy group effect on anxiety and stress. It is therefore recommended to use this model as a treatment pattern for reducing anxiety and stress patterns in diabetic children.
