Comparison of Communication Patterns of Couples and problem solving in the family among married seminary and university male students

Abstract :

The aim of this study was to compare the communication pattern of couples and solve family problems among married seminary and university male students. The research method was causal-comparative. In order to achieve the research objectives, all married male seminary and university students in Qom were selected from a sample of 120 people (60 married male seminary students and 60 married male university students) by simple random sampling method. Couples' communication model questionnaires (Christensen and Salawi, 1984) and family problem solving (Ahmadi, 2003) were used to collect data. The reliability of the questionnaire was calculated using Cronbach's alpha method, the value of which was higher than 0.7 for both questionnaires. Content validity was also used to test the validity of the questionnaire, for which the questionnaires were approved by relevant experts. Analysis of data obtained from the questionnaires was performed through SPSS-V24 software in two descriptive and inferential sections (multivariate and univariate analysis of variance tests). The results showed that there was no significant difference between couples' communication pattern and its components (constructive relationship, female withdrawal relationship, expected female / retired male scale and avoidance relationship scale) among married seminary and university male students. The results also showed that there was no significant difference between solving the family problem among married male seminary and university students. Overall, it can be concluded that couples who are in the process of projecting family and usually in adulthood or even before, use different strategies to escape the unresolved emotional bonds of the family. These strategies can be physical distance from the family or creating psychological barriers such as not talking to a family member. Women who do not use the presence of others to investigate their issues feel more isolated and lonely.
