Predicting academic procrastination based on academic self-concept and excitement seeking in girl students

Abstract :
The aim of the present study was to determine the prediction of academic procrastination based on academic self-concept and excitement seeking in girl students. In terms of the applied purpose and in terms of the data collection method, it is a descriptive correlational research. The statistical population of this study consisted of all second-year high school students in Tehran in the academic year 2024-2025, and the sample size of 140 was calculated using the Tabachnig and Fidel formula (2008) and was selected using the convenience sampling method. In this study, Solomon and Bloom's (1984) academic procrastination questionnaire, Chen and Thompson's (2004) self-concept questionnaire, and Zuckerman's (1978) excitement seeking questionnaire were used to collect data. The data were analyzed by correlation and regression tests. The results of the analysis of the findings showed that there is a significant correlation between academic self-concept and excitement seeking with academic procrastination (p < 0.01, r = 0.687), and according to F equal to 7.245 with a level of (p < 0.01), it has become significant, meaning that the variables of academic self-concept and excitement seeking well explain the changes in the variable of academic procrastination of girl students in the second secondary school. And the beta of academic selfconcept (-0.273) and beta of excitement seeking (-0.344) have been obtained, which is significant at the level of (p < 0.01), meaning that it is possible to predict the variable of academic procrastination in girl students in the second secondary school based on academic self-concept and excitement seeking as independent predictor variables and also consider it effectiv.
