Abstract :
Didactic literature is one of the main genres of Persian literary poetry which deals with ethics, advices, and sermons. However, Didactic themes could also be found in other literary genres such as lyric cycles. Azar and Mozar, written in the seventh century, is one of these lyric cycles in which a great deal of various didactic themes could be viewed. Saad al-Din Nizari Ghohestani is one of the poets who expressed various didactic concepts in different ways. The poet attempted to apply moral and ethical concepts by using literary techniques such as hinting, evangelizing, warning, reasoning, and glorifying in order to persuade the audience. The purpose of this research is to investigate why such didactic themes are reflected in this lyric cycle, to specify the methods the poet applied to persuade the audience, and to illustrate the literary techniques the poet used for illustrating each ethical concept as well.
