The relationship between stress coping styles and social support with quality of life of female- headed households

Abstract :
The aim of this investigation was to examine the relationship among stress coping styles and social support with quality of life of female- headed households. The sample consisted of 150 female- headed households from 16th region, Tehran who were selected by a randomized method. The Coping Inventory for Stressful Situation (CISS), Social Support Inventory, and The Short Form (36) Health Survey were used to measure variables. Results showed that there was Significant relationships between coping styles and social support about quality of life. Among coping styles components, problem- focused coping and avoidance coping were positively related with quality of life (α > 0.05) and emotion- focused coping was negatively related with quality of life (α>0.001). Significant correlations were observed between all components (except social support from friends' component) of social support and quality of life (α >0.01). The results of a regression analysis showed that emotion- focused coping, family support, and self- distraction predict variability in quality of life. Conclusions showed that Ability of cope with stressful events can affect quality of life, especially by avoidance coping and family support. Also, emotion- focused coping have a negative effect on quality of life.
