A Comparison of the Family Functioning of Patients Suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Depression with Normal People Based on Mc Master’s Model

Abstract :
The obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and depression, due to their characteristics, can impair family functioning. The aim of this research is to study family functioning in patients with OCD and depression based on McMaster’s model and to Compare it with the family functioning The aim of this research is to study family functioning in patients with OCD and depression based on Mc Master’s model and to compare it with the family functioning of normal people .The statistic population included the patients with OCD and depression who referred to the psychiatric clinics of Tabriz. From among them, 80 people were selected by available sampling and were assigned to the experimental group. The control group was selected from among the students and employees of Tabriz University. All the participants were asked to complete the Moudsley Obsessive -Compulsive Inventory (MOCI), Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI-II) and Family Assessment Device (FAD). The data were analyzed by MANOVA. The results indicated that with regard to general functioning ,the normal people act better than depression group ,and the depression group act better than OCD patients (p<0.001).Regarding communication, the patients act poorly compared to the normal group (p<0.001) and from the viewpoint of affective involvement, the depressive patients showed more dysfunction than OCD and normal people. However, concerning affective responsiveness, there was a significant relation only between the depressive and the normal group (p<0.001).
