An Investigation into the Reliability and Validity of Beck Anxiety Inventory among the University Students

Abstract :
Anxiety is regarded as the most significant symptoms of psychological disorders. Beck Anxiety Inventory is considered as one of the most commonly used assessment tools of anxiety and has been developed to assess both clinical and nonclinical anxiety. The research purpose is to carry out an investigation into the reliability and validity of beck anxiety inventory among the university students. Hence, in an analytical-cross sectional study, a sample of 600 university students studying in Arak Medical university was selected using stratified sampling and filled out Beck Anxiety Inventory. Data analysis indicated no significant between-group difference in terms of anxiety mean. The reliability coefficient using cronbach alpha was estimated to be .92.Five components was obtained using factor analysis which explained 58.54 percent of the scores of the inventory. Overall, the reliability and construct validity are indicative of the adequacy of Beck Anxiety Inventory in the assessment of the clinical anxiety.
