Abstract :
This research investigated the effect of social capital on perceived social support by considering the mediation of Mental well-being. The present study was applied in terms of its purpose and a survey inquiry given its method of data collection. The statistical population of the research comprised the students of the Islamic Azad University- Sciences and Research Branch and the University of Tehran. A number of 440 students, selected by the simple randomized sampling method, was considered as the study sample, whose size was estimated by the SPSS SAMPLE POWER software. Onyx and Bullen’s Social Capital questionnaire, the perceived social support scale, and the Mental well-being inventory of the World Health Organization were used for data collection. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 25 and AMOS 23 software. To investigate the hypotheses, the researchers employed a regression model with latent variables, a mediatory model of one-sample t-test, and Freidman’s test. With respect to the findings of this study, social capital has positive and significant effects on social support and Mental well-being, and social support positively and significantly affects Mental well-being. Meanwhile, the subjective well-being variable mediates the effect of social capital on social support. Concerning the importance of social capital and social support and their contributions to students’ subjective well-being, policy-makers and planners should pay attention to its promotion.
