Measuring the impact of housing quality components on the mental health of residents of low-rise and mid-rise houses (Case study: Zafaranieh neighborhood, Tabriz)

Today, the chaotic environment of human settlements and cities is considered one of the effective factors in stress and psychological tensions of humans, which has led to an increased focus on interdisciplinary studies regarding the role of the environment on mental health in order to investigate the urban environment to reduce existing tensions. Given the potential role of the physical environment on stress, depression and other mental health indicators, it is necessary to examine various aspects of its role. For this purpose, in this article, with the aim of closely examining the separate impact of housing quality components on the mental health of individuals by dividing houses into low-rise and medium-rise houses, a detailed study of each type of housing was conducted. For this purpose, in addition to measuring the impact of housing quality components on the mental health of citizens, this article also seeks to achieve how the height of different types of houses affects the mental health of citizens. The research method in this study was a causal-comparative study that was conducted with a statistical population of 100 people (male and female) from among the residents of low-rise houses (1 to 2 floors) and medium-rise houses (4 to 8 floors) in the Zafaraniyeh neighborhood of Tabriz city, who were selected using purposive sampling. The findings show that each component has different roles in the mental health of people in different types of houses, and in summary, it can be concluded that the physical component plays a more important role in the mental health of residents of low-rise houses than other components, and in the case of their lack of mental health, the sociocultural component plays a more prominent role. Also, in the case of residents of mid-rise houses, it can be acknowledged that functional and physical components have played a more important role in their mental health than other components, and in general, people living in low-rise houses have much better mental health than people living in mid-rise houses. |
