Abstract :

Urban public spaces are envisioned to be vibrant, engaging, and secure environments for residents. Mitigating crime rates and safeguarding community members from hazards and disturbances are essential aspects contributing to sustainability, notably within the social context. This article initially explores the fundamental principles and design patterns relevant to urban public spaces and their role in crime reduction. Subsequently, an analysis of the posht Shahr neighborhood in Bandar Abbas is conducted. The examination of crime types in this area leads to the identification of four effective crime prevention principles in urban planning: monitoring, controlling entrances, reinforcing territorial boundaries, and crime protection. These principles offer practical and tailored solutions based on the studied sample. The research methodology adopted is a descriptive-analytical approach, which entails content analysis through library documentation and field observations, in line with the applied-developmental goal. This study concentrates on the posht Shahr neighborhood located in the central region of Bandar Abbas city. To achieve the research objectives, four primary criteria and nine selected sub-criteria were utilized to assess the potential locations. These criteria were weighted using the Analytic Network Process (ANP) model, resulting in the identification of two suitable sites for urban public space in the posht Shahr neighborhood. The evaluation of three potential construction sites for urban public spaces in Posht Shahr revealed that site 2 (scoring 0.414) and site 1 (scoring 0.3313) were deemed favorable. These results underscore the most viable locations for urban public space development in this neighborhood. This research, drawing insights from theories, research, and case studies, has successfully pinpointed the determinants that drive individuals to these locations. It is expected that the establishment of such spaces will lead to a decline in crime and delinquency.
