Validity and reliability of the Iranian version of the social presence questionnaire of students in Virtual instruction

Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the social presence questionnaire, which was created by Song and Mayer (2012). The research method was descriptive-contextualization. 256 students completed the said questionnaire. For validity, the opinions of 8 experts were received and the content validity ratio was calculated for each of the statements of the questionnaires, and the value of the coefficient was greater than 0.79. Also, the coefficient of content validity index for each item was calculated as 0.75 or more. In order to check the factor structure of the questionnaire, a confirmatory factor analysis was performed, but the fit indices were not acceptable.
Therefore, after evaluating the correction indices and creating covariance between the errors of items 7 and 10 on the one hand and items 13 and 16 on the other hand, fit indices were obtained which show that the five-factor model of the social presence questionnaire correlates with the collected data. It has an acceptable fit.
Cronbach's alpha method was used to check the reliability of the questionnaire, and the overall Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.82. Considering the appropriate validity and reliability of the mentioned questionnaire, it is recommended that it be used as a tool for measuring social presence in students.
