The relationship between family communication patterns dimensions and resilience in high school students: ediating role of emotional intelligence

Abstract :
The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of emotional intelligence in relationship between family communication patterns dimensions and resilience in high school students. Participants included 222 male andfemale students were selected by random cluster sampling method. They completed family communication patterns dimensions, resilience, and emotional intelligence questionnaires, respectively. The results of correlation matrix showed there were significant relationships between family communication patterns dimensions, emotional intelligence, and resilience. It means there were significant positive relationship between conversation orientation, emotional intelligence and resilience.Also, there were significant negative relationship between conformity orientation, emotional intelligence and resilience. Furthermore, there was a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and resilience.Multiple regression analysis showed conversation was a significant positive predictor of emotional intelligence and resilience, but conformity wasnot a significant predictor of them. Finally, it was determined the mediating role of emotional intelligence in relationship between family conversation orientation and resilience. Thisresearch indicates that encouragingchildren for participation in family conversation increases resilience directly and indirectly by the mediation of emotional intelligence.
