Abstract :
The aim of this paper is to explain how the field of International Relations evolved in Iran before and after the Islamic Revolution. Sociological, economic, and historical variables are presented to set out this evolution. It analyzes the hypothesis that although IR theories and methodologies have had almost no effect on the way in which the Islamic Republic defines the global system and perform its foreign relations, its influence today among students and academic community is unprecedented. The paper concludes that political science and IR will play a key role in providing raw data about the world and introducing knowledge on how other countries are being transformed and what Iran could learn from them.
