Abstract :
This study was done to compare Pb, Cd accumulation and their interactions in root and leaves of Oleo europea and also to investigate the effects of these elements on proline, chlorophyll and soluble sugar. Treatments were consisted of elements in two levels (Pb and Cd) and concentration in three levels (control, 200, 500 and 1000 mg/L). Results showed Cd did not effect on proline in Olea europea. In contrast, Pb increased the amount of proline in concentration of 200 mg/L. In concentration of 200 mg/L both elements increased the amounts of sugar soluble but the effect of Cd was more significant. Both elements decreased chlorophyll content in leaves. Accumulation of Pb in root of the plant increased with increasing Pb concentration. The highest Pb accumulation in root of the plant in concentration 1000 mg/L was equal to 101 mg/kg compare to control that was 8.5 mg/kg. The highest Cd accumulation in root in concentration of 500 mg/L was equal to 428 mg/kg. Cd accumulation also increased with increasing Cd concentration especially in 200 and 500 mg/L. It is concluded that Olea europea in concentration lower than 200 mg/L can tolerate to these elements by producing proline and soluble sugar. Since the proline, soluble sugar and Chlorophyll content decreased in concentration more than 200 mg/L, therefore the results of the experiment do not recommend planting this plant in concentration more than 200 under condition of this experiment.
