Construction and Standardization of Coping Strategies Questionnaire with Stress for College Students

Abstract :
The aim of this research was constructing and standardizing coping strategies questionnaire with stress for college students. The population of the study included all students in different branches of Islamic Azad University of Roudehen in academic year 1387-88. 635 students were drawn by stratified sampling. The instrument (coping strategies questionnaire including three components of problem-oriented, psychoemotional-oriented and avoidance-oriented) consist of 49 Likert-type items with four rating scale according to the theories of Freud, Lazarus & Folkman, Blaker and others. The reliability of test was estimated using Cranbach's Alpha (0.80).Construct validity of test was assessed through factor analysis (pc) with varimax rotation. This analysis showed that each of the components has explained 47.51 and 52 percentage of construct validity of this study. The findings of research showed that 1) this questionnaire has a proper reliability and construct validity.2) Separate tables of norms were computed for each of components and for males and females in t- score and percentile rank to assess coping strategies questionnaire with stress. This instrument could be used for clients confronting stress in planning for treatment
